Alumni Weekend 2018 | Thomas More College

Alumni Weekend 2018

The annual alumni weekend took place this August 3rd through 5th. Both the old and new, once again came together with faculty and staff to pray, to dine, to reminisce, and converse about the nature of man and the books we have been blessed to read and love.

The weekend began with a wine and cheese reception in the Warren room of the College Library. On Saturday, the morning was set in motion with confessions heard and mass participated in. After lunch, the College alumna Anna Maria Mendell ‘08, author of the Golden Princess and the Moon, exhorted her fellow graduates to play their part in the preservation of the occident. She spoke of a Catholic’s life in the world of 2018 but also of a liberally educated Catholic’s life in the world.

That afternoon, many were able to tour Mercy Hall and observe the wide variety of renovations that the building had undergone for the Designer Showhouse. In the evening, after boccie and corn-hole, everyone gathered for a banquet in the café where Chef Sam had prepared a feast of the senses which included a bone stock made from the lambs of Easter’s roast.

After the meal, Matthew Gendron ’11 of the Alumni Association spoke about the importance of giving back to your Alma Mater. He said that giving monetarily is not the only way to help, but that we can be ambassadors to our communities and contributors of time, but most of all we can each pray for the College.

President Fahey then delivered a speech where he thanked all those who had come before him. He brought to everyone’s attention that without men like Dr. Peter Sampo and Dr. Jefferey O. Nelson the school would not be. He reminded everyone of the importance of gratitude and of having a sense of humility when reflecting on one’s origins, but also when anticipating one’s future. At the mention of what was to come, since we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the College’s founding, Dr. Fahey revealed the College’s 40 month plan of campus development. At the end of his address, he asked that Fr. John Healey give a benediction for all those present.
