With great sadness, news of Mitchell Kalpakgian’s death reached the College during Orientation. Dr. Kalpakgian had served periodically as a Visiting Fellow at Thomas More College, teaching literature, writing, and advanced tutorials. After a short and sudden struggle with Leukemia, Dr. Kalpakgian passed away on August 27th. An expert in Fielding, Shakespeare, and a wide range of British and American authors, he is fondly remembered at the College for his lectures on Children’s literature and the “Lost Arts of Civilization.” Kalpakgian was also a regular contributor to the weekly column The Civilized Reader, edited by William Fahey. Dr. Fahey’s tribute to Mitchell Kalpakgian can be read at the Civilized Reader page of Crisis Magazine for Monday, September 3rd, 2018—“The Man Who Saw and Tasted the Abundance of Life.”
