Vespers for Victims

By Ella Fordyce, Class of 2019

A group of students from Thomas More College of Liberal Arts recently assisted at a forty-hour devotion held at St. Michael’s Parish in Exeter. The devotion, organized by associate pastor Father Matthew Schultz, was held for the sake of victims of heroin and human trafficking. Father Schultz, knowing the propensity of TMC students for sacred music, invited them to come and sing Vespers as part of the devotion; the students responded with alacrity. A number of students came to the parish to sing the propers for Vespers, as well as a number of polyphonic pieces. After the devotion was concluded, the students went out for dinner with Father Schultz. By assisting such local parishes, TMC students aim to strengthen the Catholic community that is so vital in a secular society.
