OPEN TEACHING POSITIONS

Oakcrest School, an independent liberal arts school for girls in grades 6-12 in Vienna, VA, seeks experienced, dynamic teachers to start working in August 2020.  Interested candidates should send a cover letter, statement of teaching philosophy, resume, and a list of at least three current references to: employment@oakcrest.org.

  
Latin Teacher (Full Time)

Applicants must have a strong Latin background and should be able to teach across the Latin curriculum. Qualified applicants will meet the following criteria:
  • possess a background or experience in the liberal arts;
  • have a minimum of three years teaching experience;
  • have the ability to teach in an interdisciplinary manner.
  • contribute to school life in meaningful ways outside the classroom (coaching, leading
  • extracurriculars, supervisions, etc.);
  • have ability to work collaboratively within the Foreign Language Department and with other departments;

Middle School Mathematics Teacher (Full Time)

By inspiring an appreciation for the richness and beauty of mathematics, the Oakcrest mathematics curriculum helps students to undertake enthusiastically the rigorous training in analysis and logic that the study of mathematics demands. As a result, students develop the habits of perseverance, resourcefulness, and logical thought. Applicants should possess:
  • a strong educational background in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and possibly Geometry;
  • bachelors degree in mathematics or a related field (required);
  • a minimum of three to five years teaching experience in a rigorous program;
  • possess a background or experience in the liberal arts;
  • excellent communication skills and an understanding of the developmental needs of adolescent girls;
  • experience with and desire to collaboratively work as part of a team;
  • commitment to excellent teaching and to continued professional development;
  • desire to involve oneself with the school communicate beyond the classroom.

Upper School Science Teacher (Full Time)

Oakcrest School seeks a full time experienced teacher of Physics and/or Chemistry beginning in August 2020. The Science Department understands that science is grounded in the experience of wonder at the world around us, and seeks to instill in the student the art of questioning, the principles of observation, and the precision of thought. Applicants should possess:
  • a background in Physics and/or Chemistry (required);
  • master’s degree (preferred);
  • a background or experience in the liberal arts (preferred);
  • a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience teaching science;
  • excellent communication skills and an understanding of the developmental needs of adolescent girls;
  • ability to make a contribution to the School outside one’s academic department.

OPEN POSITION

Bus Driver

We are seeking an experienced school bus driver for our growing transportation program. Responsibilities include driving a daily route to and from school, as well as driving for class field trips, sporting events and other activities, as needed.

Preferred candidates should have or be willing to obtain a CDL license with the “S” and/or “P” Endorsement.  All employees must undergo the required background check and related training. Drivers should be familiar with the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia and Montgomery County area and demonstrate the ability to deal professionally and courteously with faculty, parents and students.

OPEN COACHING POSITIONS

Oakcrest School, an independent school for girls in grades 6-12 in Vienna, Virginia, seeks a qualified person(s) to coach our team(s). This position will work closely with the Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director to continue building a strong program. Spring Season is March through May.
The following coaching positions are open:

Spring

  • Lacrosse Coach
  • Assistant Golf Coach
  • Middle School Softball Coach
Candidates should enjoy working with teenagers and possess an exceptional work ethic, strong communication skills, and a commitment to collegiality. In addition, candidates should possess:
  • Ability to promote and model sportsmanship, friendship and respect for others on the team and in the community.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the sport with previous playing experience preferred
  • Ability to develop cohesive relationships with the athletes and parents in the program
  • Commitment to the emotional and physical safety of all participants
  • Ability to work with the school staff to foster a healthy school culture
  • CPR/AED certification preferred
