On 22 February, Italian authorities created small quarantine areas in northern Italy near Venice and in Lombardy due to the coronavirus. These quarantine areas are approximately 300 miles from the Rome campus. On 24 February the World Health Organization announced that it is monitoring the situation with the Italian government. The State Department has expressed concern about travel in northern Italy. Dr. Fahey has requested daily reporting from Mr. Assaf, the Program Director. The campus has undergone strict changes regarding cleaning methods and the cleaning schedule. The College has an excellent relationship with the Roman hospital, Ospedale San Pietro Fate bene Fratelli.
On 24 February, the Thomas More Campus was inspected by the staff doctor who was pleased with the arrangements. He also gave an overview of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Dr. Fahey and Mr. Assaf have required the students not to travel north of Florence (well outside of the Italian quarantine areas). Also, the spring break in Rome has been suspended to allow the advancing of the academic calendar and to take into consideration a fuller assessment of the medical situation.
