Thomas More College students are accustomed to learning out-of-doors. They can be found on an excursion for Natural History walking silently through the Ponemah Bog or gathered under the school’s 200-year-old crabapple tree. But on March 29, 2022, the students enrolled in Dr. Taylor’s ecology tutorial found themselves learning in a somewhat unexpected location: aboard the Sixpence, a working lobster boat out of Boston Harbor.
In the May edition of the Massachusetts Lobstermen’s Association newspaper, Daniel Tosta ’22 reflected on his experiences with the lobstermen out on the water that day, their passion for their work, and the challenges they are facing.
