Announcing the Pope Benedict XVI Scholarship

Thomas More College of Liberal Arts is pleased to offer the prestigious Pope Benedict XVI Scholarship, which recognizes students of exceptional academic achievement and intellectual promise. This scholarship is designed to support those who have demonstrated a commitment to their studies and a deep engagement with the Catholic intellectual tradition.

“Pope Benedict XVI’s spirit and writings have long held a special place at Thomas More College of Liberal Arts,” commented Senior Admissions Officer Michael Yost ’18. “Our curriculum, and in particular our approach to theology and the reading of Sacred Scripture, has benefited from our common reading of his series on the Gospels, Jesus of Nazareth.”

Thomas More College offers a variety of scholarship opportunities.

“Like our own patron, Benedict XVI was a man of immense learning, spiritual fortitude, and abiding faith,” Mr. Yost continued. “With that in mind, Thomas More College and its benefactors have founded this new scholarship.”

The Pope Benedict XVI Scholarship is valued at $18,000 per year—nearly two-thirds of tuition—and is available to qualified freshmen applicants. Applicants must submit a thoughtful, well-written essay that engages with the themes and arguments presented in Pope Benedict XVI’s encyclical Deus Caritas Est.

This new scholarship reflects Thomas More College’s dedication to fostering a community of scholars who are both academically accomplished and deeply engaged with questions of faith, reason, and charity. By recognizing and rewarding academic excellence, this scholarship invites students to join a vibrant intellectual and spiritual tradition.
