Guildmaster

Profile

Biography

Raised in California during the birth of Silicon Valley, Anton’s formative years were shaped by two enduring influences: the emerging world of personal computing and the rugged landscapes of California’s Sierra Nevada. An early donation of two Apple computers to his high school sparked a lifelong interest in technology, while Scouting led to teaching mountaineering in the High Sierra and climbing throughout Yosemite Valley. From an early age, he developed an appreciation for practical wisdom gained through direct experience in demanding environments.

At eighteen, Anton entered the United States Army, serving in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East in leadership roles before beginning an international career in telecommunications security, cybersecurity, and critical infrastructure. Over more than three decades, he held positions of increasing technical and organizational responsibility protecting complex communications systems while living and working throughout Europe, the Middle East, and North America. These experiences fostered a deep appreciation for history, culture, and the responsibilities that accompany positions of trust.

Alongside his international career, Anton has devoted decades to wildlife conservation, outdoor education, and the preservation of traditional fieldcraft. A professional outdoorsman, licensed trapper, and wildlife educator, he has worked extensively in wildlife conflict management, conservation, and public education. Over the course of his career, he has instructed and mentored more than 1,000 students and practitioners, including certifying more than 650 trappers through state-approved Trapper Education programs. Throughout his teaching, he has emphasized that technical competence must always be joined with humility, sound judgment, ethical responsibility, and respect for both creation and the communities served. His work has been featured by NPR, the Discovery Channel, and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Those same principles have guided Anton’s work in technology. Through leadership within the IEEE, including service as Chair of the P1915.1 Security in Virtualized Environments Working Group, he contributed to the development of international security standards while collaborating with experts from around the world to address emerging challenges in cybersecurity and critical infrastructure.

More recently, his research has focused on trustworthy artificial intelligence, AI governance, and the responsible development of autonomous systems. He is the author of the AI Control Domains framework and an inventor with pending patent applications related to AI memory custody, governance, and verifiable data handling. His current work explores how principles of stewardship, trust, and sound judgment can guide the development and governance of increasingly capable AI systems.

Although these pursuits appear diverse, Anton regards them as expressions of a single vocation: helping people exercise sound judgment in environments where the consequences of error are significant. Whether mentoring students in the outdoors, advising organizations responsible for critical infrastructure, or researching the governance of artificial intelligence, he seeks to cultivate prudence, responsibility, resilience, and thoughtful leadership grounded in practical experience.

As Guildmaster of the Saint Hubertus Guild at Thomas More College, he seeks not simply to teach outdoor skills, but to form men and women capable of prudent judgment, responsible stewardship, and thoughtful leadership. Students are challenged to develop competence, humility, resilience, and sound judgment while learning that technical skill, ethical responsibility, and reverence for creation are inseparable. He believes that character is formed through disciplined practice, thoughtful reflection, and responsible action—and that practical wisdom remains one of the most important qualities for navigating both the natural world and the increasingly complex technological world.
