The Irish in Merrimack

The Thomas More College of Liberal Arts has once again been honored to assist Newman College Ireland (NCI) by welcoming a group of its students to continue or complete their studies at the College. Phil Lawler (Visiting Fellow and Program Director at the Center for the Restoration of Christian Culture) has chronicled some of Ireland’s woes of late.  The collapse of a culture rooted in the Faith, led Nicholas Healy, President Emeritus of Ave Maria University (and a former Vice President of Franciscan University of Steubenville) and Kathy Sinnott, former Member of the European Parliament to start an educational project for the Irish people.  From its inception, they have worked with guidance from President William Fahey and Dean Jay Thompson. NCI’s first year commenced at the TMC’s Rome campus now they temporarily join TMC in Merrimack while planning for a campus expansion in Ireland.

The Newman College Ireland, like Thomas More College, is an institution dedicated to a classical liberal arts curriculum as the tested foundation for preparing young men and women to face the challenges of the modern world and live lives of virtue and promise.  The key to success, of course, remains fidelity to Catholic teachings and traditions, especially as outlined in St. John Paul II’s Ex Corde Ecclesia.  The College welcomes our friends from Ireland and looks forward to working with the students and staff of NCI as they go forth to redeem and re-evangelize Irish society.
