Glenn Arbery to Deliver 2026 Commencement Address at Thomas More College

Thomas More College of Liberal Arts is proud to announce that Glenn Arbery, PhD will deliver the Commencement Address to the Class of 2026. In honor of their longstanding friendship with the College, Dr. Arbery and his wife, Virginia, will each receive an honorary doctorate during this year’s graduation exercises.

An author and teacher, Dr. Arbery is a faculty member and former president of Wyoming Catholic College. He previously taught at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, the University of Dallas, Assumption College, and the Thomas More College of Liberal Arts, where he served as a professor of literature from 1986 to 1997.

Dr. Arbery has also been honored as a speaker at two previous Catholic Literature Conferences, which are hosted by Thomas More College. He spoke on Lewis and Milton in 2018 and, more recently, on the Iliad in 2025. Dr. Arbery is the author of Why Literature Matters, Bearings and Distances, and Boundaries of Eden.

“Thomas More College is glad to have old friends and teachers—Glenn and Virginia Arbery—returning,” commented Fellow and President William Fahey. “A community is healthy when it remembers and honors important moments and people of its history. The Arberys are well known and influential teachers and scholars at several institutions of higher learning, but our college was profoundly shaped and ennobled by their learning and generous hearts. We are glad to have them return for this most solemn and joyful of occasions.”

The Baccalaureate Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Hamilton, Rector of the Domus Australia in Rome. A priest of the Catholic Diocese of Sydney and former secretary to the late George Cardinal Pell, Fr. Hamilton has become a friend of the College through spending time with TMC students during their Rome semester. Before becoming a priest, Fr. Hamilton was an investment banker. He holds a doctorate in Patristics from Oxford.

The Thomas More College community is looking forward to welcoming Fr. Hamilton to our Merrimack campus for the first time.
