Thomas More College of Liberal Arts is proud to announce that the Cardinal Newman Society has granted the Saint John Henry Newman Award to Fellow and President William Fahey.
“On behalf of Catholic families, we recognize Dr. William Edmund Fahey for his many years of leadership in preserving and advancing Catholic liberal education and uphold him and Thomas More College of Liberal Arts as models of faithful Newman Guide Recommended education,” the Society announced.
Patrick J. Reilly, President of the Cardinal Newman Society, presented the award at a banquet held in Washington, D.C., on June 17, 2026. Mr. Reilly expressed the Society’s gratitude to President Fahey in advance of the College’s upcoming presidential transition. In his remarks, Mr. Reilly also praised the College as “a stronghold for faithful Catholic liberal arts education rooted in the same classical and Christian tradition that gave rise to the once-great Catholic universities of Europe.”
“After seventeen years of steadfast service as president of Thomas More College, Dr. Fahey certainly deserves to be recognized by the Cardinal Newman Society,” commented President-Elect Matthew Walz. “He navigated the College through rough waters to a place of stability, thus ensuring that Thomas More will continue to provide students with its distinctive integrated Catholic liberal arts education on a truly personal scale.”
Dr. Walz also reflected on President Fahey’s impact on the College’s cultural life. “All along,” he continued, “Dr. Fahey remained a robust presence in the classroom, and his wit and humor contributed greatly to the unique ethos of our close-knit academic community. We are all grateful for what Dr. Fahey has done and will continue to do for Thomas More College.”
